IceOutDates keeps the year-by-year record of the day spring ice lets go on 1,064 northern lakes, for the people who plan a season around it. It estimates nothing — a lake needs five documented years before it gets a page, and the longest record, Sebago Lake, runs back to 1807.

The page opens on a pale ice-blue field with the text held to a single narrow column on the left, short measure, plenty of air to its right. Three stat cards carry the argument at a glance — 1,064 lakes, 23,414 recorded ice-outs, an oldest record of 1807 — and the state cards under them are plain bordered boxes naming a handful of lakes in deep green rather than illustrating anything. The lede admits outright that it is August and the lakes are warm, which is an unusually honest thing for a seasonal database to say. The only accent color, a thin orange rule, is spent twice on the same safety line.
