Thinking Machines Lab

Thinking Machines Lab is the AI research and product company Mira Murati founded after leaving OpenAI, where she was CTO. Its first model, Inkling, shipped with downloadable weights under Apache 2.0 — 975 billion parameters, the largest openly released model built in the US.

Notes

The homepage is one narrow column of serif prose on off-white — no hero image, no product shots, no gradient. A wide-tracked grey sans wordmark sits alone at the top, and below it the company explains itself in essay form, italic lead-ins standing in where most labs would use bullets. Stretches of the running text are tinted olive and muted teal, breaking a long read into phrase-length spans and keeping the eye moving without any graphic device at all. For a lab whose stated position is that science is better when shared, presenting the argument as something to read rather than skim is the right call.
